This Ritual Dance (for all gender!) will be a celebration to both the warming up to spring & the sacredness of femininity. A celebration of life.Ancient Romans celebrated various goddesses, and womanhood in general.
The 1st of March is the day Vesta started lighting up the sacred fire in the Temple of Vesta. This was symbolic of the ‘lighting up’ or the ‘warming up to’ of Spring. Also on this day the ancient Romans celebrated the festival of Matronalia, which was associated with Juno, the goddess of generosity, love, femininity, marriage and childbirth.
We all share this 'feminine' energy in different amounts & ways.
We are dancing the firey energy brought from the womb to the world.
We are carrying life physically inside and/or supporting one another.
We are bringing, whether male or female by gender, the qualities warmth, generosity & love that we are born with.
Let us celebrate these beautiful goddesses who continue birthing life.
Let us carry the scared marriage with the other, and/or with ourself.
Let us light up our sacred fires within the temple of a church, within the temple of the body and dance with the burning passion of life!
Andrew Leigh will guide this Ritual Dance, inspired by his background in contact improvisation and contemporary dance.

***What is Ritual Dance?***
Ritual Dance is a dance experience where we come together in silence. From the silence we make eye contact with another dancer. Music is the invitation to go into spontaneous, free dance.
The concept of Ritual Dance is inspired by Ecstatic Dance and Ritual Play. We only use body language, we leave words behind. We dance barefoot. We only drink water and let ourselves be carried away by the natural flow. There is a dedicated space (the field) and time frame (the songs), in which we step into the unknown, to authentically follow our impulses in tune with the other.
