Two Colour Printing Workshop
Exploring separation, layering, and limited palettes
In this hands-on session, we’ll explore how to turn your full colour digital images into two colour prints. You’ll learn how to take any image and separate the colours for printing; experimenting with contrast, depth and theme.
Whether you’re a photographer, designer, illustrator, or zine-maker, this session will help you build confidence in preparing your own duotone images ready to Risograph print.
What we’ll do
- Colour theory and Riso printing: learn the basics of duotone and spot-colour printing; including colour spaces, halftones, ink opacities, and how inks interact on paper.
- Digital preparation: step by step image separation and layering in Adobe Photoshop or Affinity Photo, preparing files for a two-colour print workflow.
- Test & experiment: make test prints, understanding how to check registration, adjust densities, and refine your images for best results.
You will produce a set of A5 duotoneprints of your own image to take home, as well as the knowledge and confidence to apply the method to future projects.
What to bring
- Your laptop with Adobe Photoshop (any recent version) or Affinity Photo installed
- A few high-resolution images you’d like to work with (TIFF, PSD, or a large JPEG)
- Pen, sketchbook, and your curiosity — no prior Risograph print experience needed!
