With:
Craig Foster - former Socceroo and Human Rights spokesperson
PollyHemming - Director of Australia Institutes’ Climate and Energy Program
Musician: HipHop artist DOBBY (new album #Warrangu - River Story)
Rising Tide are travelling the country to build a groundswell of energy for real climate action and to raise excitement for the November 2024 people's Blockade of Newcastle coal port.
Last year when we blockaded the Newcastle coal port with 3000 people over three days we made international news. This year’s blockade will be even bigger, with a turnout goal of 10,000. If 2023 was the spark, 2024 will be the big bang ?
The Sydney Splash is the penultimate stop of Rising Tide’s Tour across 5 states/territories of Australia to build the climate movement for The People’s Blockade Newcastle November 2024.
Panel discussion
Science journalist and broadcaster Bernie Hobbs (Catalyst, New Inventors, and a heap o’ fun) will MC the event and chair a panel of speakers including former coal miner Grant Howard, Director of the Australia Institute’s Climate & Energy program Polly Hemming, former Socceroo and human rights advocate Craig Foster, social commentator and writer Jane Caro, and First Nations musical maelstrom DOBBY, who will also perform a bracket of his dynamic drum/rapping including a track or two from his just-released album WARRANGU: River Story.
Rising Tide
We’ll also hear from members of Rising Tide who’ve been travelling around the country by bus to raise a groundswell of support for grassroots climate action - building a movement to take on the fossil fuel industry if our government won’t.
