EVENT DESCRIPTION

PYPA Piano Festival is coming LIVE in Philadelphia this summer! To celebrate our 10th anniversary, we've prepared the first-ever, full-scale, in-person LIVE events including concerts, masterclasses, lectures, and Philadelphia International Competition on July 30-August 7.

Winners of the Philadelphia International Piano Competition Xinra Shi & Marie Wurtz will be giving a joint piano concert at 7:30PM on Agust 4 !

Xinran Shi

Xinran Shi, age 12, lives in San Jose, California. She started playing piano at 4 ½, and currently studies with Hans Boepple. Xinran is a Young Scholar Alumni of Lang Lang International Music Foundation.

In 2022, Xinran was the winner of Fremont Symphony Young Artist Competition and MTAC Solo/Concerto Piano Competition and was selected to attend the 26th Morningside Music Bridge Program in NEC, Boston. She was invited to perform in Weill Hall, NY and Segerstrom Center for the Arts, CA as a Lang Lang International Music Foundation Young Scholar. In 2021, Xinran won top prizes in the International e-Piano Junior Competition, Aloha International Piano Competition, Chicago International Music Competition, San Jose International Piano Competition, Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford, and she was one of the 9 Top Admissions participates in the John Perry Academy Summer festival. Among her previous honors were top prize at the Steinway Virtual Piano Competition Regionals and Nationals, Philadelphia International Piano Competition, Marilyn Mindell Piano Competition, the China Grand Canal Piano Art Festival and Pacific Music Society & Foundation Competition.

Besides playing piano, Xinran loves dancing, reading, swimming, and travelling.

Marie Wurtz

Marie Wurtz, 18, is a student of Inesa Sinkevych and a recent graduate of the Hackley School. She previously attended the Manhattan School of Music precollege. Marie was named a Finalist in 2022 by the National YoungArts Foundation. In the summer of 2018, she participated in the Bowdoin International Music Festival in the studio of Peter Serkin. She took part in the Philadelphia Young Pianists’ Academy in 2021, the Manhattan in the Mountains festival in 2017, and Kinhaven music camp programs in 2015 and 2016, where she gave both chamber and solo performances. In 2022, she attended the Aspen Music Festival in the studio of Arie Vardi. Marie has performed at Merkin Hall, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Studzinski Hall at Bowdoin College, the Hackley School, and various halls in the Manhattan School of Music. Recently, she and two other students from her school were finalists in the Chamber Music Society Young Musicians’ Chamber Competition playing Schoenfeld's Café Music. In 2021, she won prizes in the Philadelphia International Piano Competition and the Spotlight International Piano Competition. Marie has taken part in masterclasses with Kathryn Brown, Gary Graffman, Alexander Korsantia, Marina Lomazov, Yong-Hi Moon, and Shai Wosner.

ABOUT PYPA PIANO FESTIVAL

PYPA Summer Piano Festival was founded in 2013. For the first five years, the festival took place at the Curtis Institute of Music, and since 2018, it has been in residence at the historic Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia.

Each summer, the piano festival offers an intensive nine-day program that encompasses master classes, lectures, and concerts performed by internationally renowned pianists, as well as PYPA young artists.
