Huiping Cai

Charismatic and popular with audiences in recital and concerto settings, Huiping Cai is an engaging pianist renowned for her lyricism, musicality, and formidable technique. After winning First Prize, Best Concerto Award, and Best Recital Award at the 2017 Philadelphia International Piano Competition, she also won first prizes at the 2018 Miami Music Festival Piano Concerto Competition, the 2019 Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford, CT, and the 2022 Los Angeles International Liszt Competition.


Ms. Cai has performed as a soloist across the United States and worldwide including Mexico, Russia, Kazakhstan, and her home country China.


Huiping was a student of Ching-Yun Hu and she recently graduated from New England Conservatory where she studied with Dang Thai Son. She is currently pursuing her DMA in piano performance and literature at the Eastman School of Music under the tutelage of Alan Chow.

Junwen Liang

Chinese-born pianist Junwen Liang, age 28, began his piano studies at age nine and performed in major cities in China, Canada, and the United States. He has appeared multiple times as a soloist at Carnegie Hall and the Kimmel Center. Junwen has recently completed his doctorate at Penn State University, where he served as a teaching assistant in piano. This fall, he will be pursuing a performance diploma at the Peabody Institute, under the tutelage of Richard Goode. Junwen Liang is a returning PYPA young artist.

About PYPA Piano Festival

2023 PYPA Piano Festival is coming back to Philadelphia in summer of 2023! We have prepared 9 days of in-person events, including concerts, masterclasses, lectures, and Philadelphia International Competition, July 29-August 6, 2023!

PYPA Summer Piano Festival was founded in 2013. For the first five years, the festival took place at the Curtis Institute of Music, and since 2018, it has been in residence at the historic Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia.

Each summer, the piano festival offers an intensive nine-day program that encompasses master classes, lectures, and concerts performed by international renowned pianists, as well as PYPA young artists. The Summer Piano Festival also presents the annual Philadelphia International Piano Competition.
