On Sunday, 10th November, IDAS’ Lead ISVA, Hannah Winbolt-Lewis is organising a musical theatre performance at Joseph Rowntree Theatre in York. All proceeds from the event will be donated to IDAS, and to Leanne Lucas, the yoga teacher who was critically injured in July’s attack in Southport.'Rise up to Empower Women' is a journey through pop music and musical theatre, and features a collection of songs from popular musicals including SIX, Waitress, Heathers and The Colour Purple. Thirteen young people are donating their time to sing songs and tell stories of powerful and inspiring women, all of whom are survivors. The production is also being generously supported by Kate Lohan, a York-based singer and vocal coach, and Jo Theaker, a professional actor, singer and LAMDA teacher.
Hannah Winbolt-Lewis said, “'Rise up to Empower Women' features a mix of songs that focus on awareness, power, resilience and relief. There are some fantastic voices here in this group that will leave you all inspired. Expect to feel joy, sadness and I hope a sense of community in a shared experience as we see light through the tunnel in stories where hardship has been experienced”.
'Rise up to Empower Women' takes place on Sunday, 10th November at 7.30pm. There will be a charity raffle during the interval, with prizes including gift vouchers and hampers kindly donated by Criminally Good Books, York Stage and Impossible Restaurant & Wonderbar.
Ticket for 'Rise up to Empower Women' are priced at £20 (£18 concessions) and can be purchased via the Joseph Rowntree Theatre box office and website:
