About this Event
Whether new to the stage or love to perform, everyone can rise and shine!
👋🏻Hi, my name is Danielle Keaton (she/her) and I am a board-certified music therapist with over 8 years of professional experience working with individuals of all ages and abilities providing compassionate and engaging music experiences. I have an adult sister who is intellectually disabled and has found her passion being involved in a special needs theater program in her area (Backlight Productions in Tennessee). It has been incredible witnessing the joy she has experienced as her confidence and social skills have blossomed both on and off the stage. Inspired by my sister, I am excited to try out a similar program (on a much smaller scale) for folks in Sacramento and the surrounding areas.
ℹ️This fun workshop series is designed for neurodivergent adults to come together, learn new skills, and express themselves creatively in a supportive and empowering environment. Throughout the first 4 sessions, participants will learn some basic vocal exercises, explore theater-based games and skills adapted to their needs, and interact with a variety of instruments. The fifth and final session will be a showcase in which participants are invited to perform a song, skit, dance, or anything of their choosing either solo or with other participants (and I will of course provide support in any way that they may need me). Family members and friends are all welcome and encouraged to attend the final showcase!
🗓️Registration covers all of the following four sessions from 10-11am:
- Friday, September 5th
- Friday, September 12th
- Friday, September 19th
- Friday, September 26th
The fifth and final session date will be a showcase in October (date TBD with your input from the registration survey sent to you after signing up here).
💵This workshop series will be entirely donation based and your support will help keep this program running and accessible to all. If you're able to contribute $30 for the entire workshop series, I deeply appreciate it — but if unable to donate that amount (or anything at all), please know your loved one is still very welcome and encouraged to attend! The money will help cover the cost of renting the facility space ($250 total), plus supplies which includes things such as printing out sheet music, creating communication icons, and purchasing low cost props and other materials as needed.
⚠️After registering, a Google survey form will be sent out to collect all necessary information about the participant that MUST be filled out before the first session.
