The world is full of ruins. From the Colosseum of Rome to the Northern industrial power cities of the UK , the vine-wreathed temples of the Maya to the shell-pocked buildings of Bakhmut. Each of these ruins have a different history, but they share a single truth: they are all places where, one day, the future ended. Sameul Huntington posed the question whether conflicts between civilizations would dominate the future of world politics and today we are now witnessing the gradual decline of the West and the rise of Asia and Africa. Ibn Khaldun (1332-1406) is a significant intellectual figure within the Muslim world. He is seen as the founding father of sociology, whilst making significant contributions in the fields of history, economics and philosophy and his magnum opus, the 'Muqaddimah' is still referenced by some of the leading thinkers who study 'Civilisations' and today his idea's are more than relevant for all of us and to take heed.
