I don’t even know where to start so I guess I’ll start from the beginning….
About 5 weeks ago Eliza fell and hit her head. She got a massive goose egg above her eye. Kids fall and get bumps all the time, so we didn’t think anything of it. Well about a week later it still hadn’t gone down so we took her to our pediatrician. She sent us to get an Xray and everything was fine no fractures so she told us to just keep an eye on it and it should go down soon. Then Eliza got sick, like really sick 103.5 fever for almost a week. So, we took her to the ER, and they said it’s viral and sent us home. I didn’t like that answer so I took her back to her doctor and told them I thought maybe she had a UTI while we were there, she looked at the bump and we agreed it was going down. We did all the stuff to get urine and it wasn’t a UTI. The doctor said if her fever doesn’t break bring her back that Monday. Well, her fever broke to 99.9 and she perked up, so we thought she was getting better. Well, the next weekend she started acting sick again and her bump got bigger and started to droop, and I took her back to the doctor on Tuesday of this week and when the doctor came in she immediately was like oh no like something isn’t right. She sent us for a CT scan immediately. She called me later that day and said the CT scan came back and there isn’t a fracture or anything but there was some kind of lesion, we needed an MRI to tell exactly what it was. She told us to go to Riley as soon as possible and that she had already called ahead so they know you are coming. She had an MRI the next day and we were informed that it was a tumor by that afternoon. Next step was to speak with the oncologist, she showed us the MRI results and explained our next steps and that it was most likely Neuroblastoma, and we would probably find another large tumor somewhere else in her body, so she issued a full body CT scan. The CT scan came back and there was indeed a large tumor sitting on her adrenal gland. So on Thursday she went in for a biopsy to figure out exactly what kind of cancer we are fighting and while she was under, they also did a bone marrow biopsy and put in a centraline (which is like a permanent IV). There were complications during surgery, so we had to stay in Riley for a while longer until she was stable, in the meantime, we were waiting on the biopsy results. We got the results back today and it was confirmed that her cancer is Neuroblastoma and so we were able to get a chemo plan in place. She starts chemo tomorrow. This round of chemo is 5 days long, so we are hoping and praying we get to go home next week. The doctors are optimistic that we can get this under control and hopefully put her into remission, but it’s going to be a LONG HARD FIGHT! Eliza has been so strong and brave through this whole thing. She’s surprised us all with her strength and resilience and I have no doubt in my mind that she can’t fight this and win! #elizasfight #elizastrong #F*CKCANCER.
