About this Event

Workshop Summary

Teen Poetry Workshop: MODEL 4-Week Series with Shane Moran

This four-week workshop is designed to introduce teens to the craft of poetry in a supportive and inspiring environment. Each week, we’ll meet in person as a class to read poems, explore creative prompts, and discuss the many ways poetry can capture our lives and imaginations. In addition to class sessions, every student will receive a weekly one-on-one Zoom meeting with Shane for personalized feedback on their writing.

Students will leave the workshop with:

  • A small portfolio of original poems
  • Personalized guidance on their strengths and growth areas
  • New creative writing tools for using poetry as a form of expression, reflection, and creativity

Schedule: Weekly in-person class session (1 hour each) + weekly individual Zoom check-in (30 minutes per student).

Cost: $160 total (covers all 4 weeks = class sessions, and one-on-one meetings).

*No extra fees*

This special rate is discounted because it is the first private workshop Shane has offered. Any student who chooses to continue with consecutive future workshops will be “grandfathered” into this $160 rate, even if the standard price increases.

About the Instructor

Shane Moran is a poet and writer currently pursuing his MFA in Creative Writing at NYU’s Low-Residency Paris program as a NYU GSAS Dean's Master's Scholar. His work has been recognized nationally—he was shortlisted for the 2025 Vallum Chapbook Award and is a recipient of an Academy of American Poets Prize. Shane studied English and Government at William & Mary.

In addition to his own creative practice, Shane has taught poetry in therapeutic and community contexts. Most recently, he led a poetry workshop Narrative Repair, Love and Ross Gay for UVA’s Faculty and Employee Assistance Program (FEAP), where he helped participants explore poetry as a tool for self-expression, resilience, and well-being.

He brings this same commitment to craft, care, and creativity to his teaching with teens—creating an environment where every student feels supported, challenged, and inspired to find their voice.
