The Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Overstory, Richard Powers, comes to Foyles Charing Cross Road for the launch of Playground, his panoramic new novel set in the world’s largest ocean.
Four lives are drawn together on the island of Makatea in French Polynesia, marked for humanity’s next great adventure: a plan to send floating, autonomous cities out into the open sea. Navigating themes of technology and the environment while embarking on a deep exploration of humanity and our relationship with the earth, Playground is the searching and beautiful latest work from the highly acclaimed novelist.
Richard Powers has published thirteen novels. He is a MacArthur Fellow and received the National Book Award. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for The Overstory and his most recent novel, Bewilderment, was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. He lives in the Great Smoky Mountains.
Powers will be in conversation with writer and critic Max Liu, whose journalism has appeared in numerous publications, including The Guardian, the i and the FT.
