Barlova in Tartu is one of the key stops on Richard Hronský’s moving “Funeral” as part of his EU tour.On Wednesday, November 19th at 21:30, with his two-meter-long instrument, he will present an electro-acoustic ambient live set based on improvisations and repetitions derived from his recently released album Pohreb (Funeral), which began to take shape in Estonia in 2023.
Music journalist Pavel Klusák wrote about the album:
“The acoustic drones seem to gather an atmosphere that lingers in the air and simply amplify its resonance. We can also hear fragments of real rituals, singing, and organs; Richard rather quotes them than follows them directly without distance. It’s a very beautiful personal remix of the situation ‘this is where I came from, and traditions walked around me’ — quietly respectful toward both the people and the demons that connect the past with the present.”
You are warmly invited to join in a shared contemplation.
Richard Hronský (2002) is a Western Carpathian transdisciplinary artist, musician, and “ambient shepherd” – he plays the traditional overtone bass wind instrument, the fujara. In his live performances, he focuses on decomposing the sound of the fujara through electronic processing, denationalizing it, and together with compositional harmonies and collected field recordings, shaping them into boundless dreamscapes. These landscapes mourn the sorrows of the world, reveal intimacy through nostalgia and frozen memory, yet at the same time invite contemplation and silence.
He has been active in music production since the age of thirteen. He has released three albums, the most recent, Pohreb (Funeral), published in September 2025 by mappa editions (Slovakia – international). In 2024–2025 he studied in Athens, where he actively participated in the experimental music events ATD held in the city’s underground sewer system.
Hronský also organizes DIY events – collective exhibitions and concerts in abandoned buildings or natural environments. He initiated/curated the exhibition Rozptyl (Dispersion, 2023) in Bratislava, which brought together more than 150 artists from over ten EU countries and was realized with almost no financial support.
Through his approaches, he continuously stimulates free creativity, questions competitiveness, and reminds us of the encouragement – and above all the kindness – that remain in artistic creation.
