Pianist Richard Goode is an Avery Fisher Prize and Grammy Award-winning artist whose mastery of the instrument and deeply nuanced playing style has made him one of today’s leading interpreters. Goode’s performance offers a look into the many facets of his prismatic vision. He begins with two glorious renditions of Joseph Haydn's keyboard sonatas before moving into the section of the program Goode has himself named "Fancies and Goodnights," featuring a selection of short compositions by Georges Bizet, Christoph Willbald Gluck, Jean-Philippe Rameau, Carlo Gesualdo and more—each work selected for its beauty, strangeness and unpredictability. He closes the evening with Franz Schubert's last, longest and perhaps most highly regarded work for piano, the Sonata in B-Flat Major.
