The 32nd Season of the Eccles Organ Festival continues on Sunday, January 11, 2025, at 8:00 PM at the Cathedral of the Madeleine with a recital by renowned organist Richard Fitzgerald. Known for his exceptional improvisational skill and deep commitment to sacred music, Dr. Fitzgerald brings a program that reflects his artistry and versatility, including selections of his own composed works.Dr. Richard K. Fitzgerald serves as Director of Music and Organist at Saint Joseph Cathedral in Columbus, Ohio, a role he has held since 2015. As of 2022, he also serves as Director of Music for the Diocese of Columbus. He previously held key positions at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., where his playing was heard on internationally televised broadcasts.
Celebrated for his work in organ improvisation, Dr. Fitzgerald was the only American invited to the prestigious 53rd Haarlem International Organ Improvisation Competition in the Netherlands. He has won multiple awards, including First Prize in the University of Michigan’s National Improvisation Competition, and frequently presents masterclasses and lectures on the subject.
In addition to his performing career, Dr. Fitzgerald is a published composer with works available from GIA Publications, International Liturgy Publications, and Wayne Leupold Editions, where his three symphonies for solo organ are forthcoming.
