Ruthin Ramble is a site-specific and participatory art project that aims to create an alternative way of wandering through Ruthin. It uses techniques of drift, storytelling, psychogeography, and walking as art practice to defamiliarise residents from their everyday spaces, and rediscovering those places in new ways.
The workshop lasts for two days from 4th July - 5th July 10:00-18:00. You'll need to be available to attend both days.
The first day will be a participatory workshop in three parts: drifting, recollecting, and designing the walk.
On the second day the participants will design the walk, and create an alternative map/guide for anyone else who wishes to join in their excursion. This might include live performances, storytelling, collage making and photo installations, based on the workshop outcomes and participants decisions.
Saba Zavarei will introduce you to artistic techniques of interaction with your environment. Using Ruthin as our laboratory we will explore how to get lost and discover new meanings even in seemingly familiar places. At the end of this workshop you will be able to navigate spaces around you in performative and imaginative ways.
Please bring an old photo, or an old piece of newspaper or another object, with which you wish to tell a story of Ruthin.
Please wear comfortable clothes for warmup exercises and comfortable shoes for walking around.
