Iconic Te Whanganui-a-Tara collective Rhombus are true masters of their unique, distinctively South Pacific sound – spiced with funk, soul, reggae and electronic dub wobbly bass. From 2002 album Bass Player to 2024’s Remixes and Archives Volume 2, the return of Rhombus with Lisa Tomlins & TK Paradza is not to be missed.
Finally reunited, Rhombus return to the stage with new material and some new faces, but still with the distinctive and unique sound they have truly mastered: tried-and-true formula audiences have come to love: a south pacific musical style with combinations of funk, soul, reggae and electronic dub wobbly bass, frenetic drum lines, and echoed synth.
With Thomas, Simon and Koa at the controls, and special guests on the mic, Lisa Tomlins and TK Paradza, originating from Zimbabwe, the Rhombus crew will be laying down their original sound, along with unreleased studio mixes and the recent release of their new album Remixes and Archives Volume 2 that includes a remix of Troy Kingi‘s All Your Ships Have Sailed.
Established in 2001, Rhombus first made a splash on the scene in 2002 with their award-winning debut album Bass Player featuring the iconic singles Clav Dub and Onward (Step it Up). They followed up with their critically acclaimed sophomore album Future Reference in 2005. 2006 saw the release of Onwards: Remixes and Archives Vol. 1 and then their final studio album Rhombus in 2008.
The group went on hiatus in 2011 to pursue other projects. The intervening years saw core members Simon Rycroft, Koa Williams and Thomas Voyce keep busy with a range of other activities, including producing, mixing and mastering in their studio, postgraduate research, teaching, DJ shows, tour management, light and sound installations.
We’re so thrilled to have them back – see you on the dance floor, Whakatū!
