Weinig componisten die zo een uiteenlopend en boeiend oeuvre bij elkaar schreven als Maurice Ravel. Als een spons zoog hij melodieën en ritmes uit andere genres en culturen op en gebruikte het als inspiratie voor zijn eigen muziek, die daardoor onmogelijk onder één noemer gebracht kan worden. Alsof dat nog niet genoeg reden was om zijn muziek te programmeren, is het ook nog eens 150 jaar geleden dat hij geboren werd. Een hommage was daarom onvermijdelijk. Revue Blanche, een ensemble dat al net zo eigenzinnig is als Ravel, huldigt de unieke componist met hun ongewone bezetting van sopraan, fluit, altviool en harp. Ze halen alles uit de kast: van Moeder de Gans in haar feeërieke tuin tot populaire Griekse melodieën en een eerbetoon aan Couperin. Met Ravel verveel je je nooit en zeker niet als Revue Blanche ermee aan de slag gaat.

Few composers have written such a diverse and fascinating body of work as Maurice Ravel. He absorbed melodies and rhythms from other genres and cultures like a sponge and used them as inspiration for his own music, which is impossible to categorize. As if that weren’t reason enough to program his music, it is also 150 years since his birth. A tribute was therefore inevitable. Revue Blanche, an ensemble as idiosyncratic as Ravel himself, honors the unique composer with their unusual combination of soprano, flute, viola, and harp. They pull out all the stops: from Mother Goose in her enchanted garden to popular Greek melodies and a tribute to Couperin. With Ravel, you never get bored, especially when Revue Blanche gets involved.
