Speaker's Biography:

Florencia Pistritto, DPSI, MCIL is an Argentinian interpreter based in West Lothian, Scotland. She specialises in Health and works for the Interpretation and Translation Service of The City of Edinburgh Council since 2017, mostly with primary and secondary schools and Social Services. Florencia is currently working on her dissertation to obtain her master’s degree in Translation Studies.

In addition to her work, she is a member of CIOL’s Scottish Society Steering Group and helps organise Continuous Professional Development events for linguists and is one of the moderators of the largest online support group for Osteosarcoma and Ewing’s Sarcoma patients. In the past she was a Campaigns Ambassador for Cancer Research UK and a public speaker for Macmillan, to raise awareness of the importance of the early diagnosis of the disease.

Abstract:

Temple Grandin is a professor of animal science at Colorado State University and the author of The Autistic Brain, Thinking in Pictures and The Loving Push. She is also known for having Asperger’s Syndrome and her advocacy for the autistic community.
