About this Event
We had been eagerly anticipating the Government’s Employment Rights Bill which they had promised to publish within 100 days of last July’s general election. Although the Government met its deadline, it has been suggested that many of the 28 elements will not come into force until October 2026 after an extensive period of consultation and further secondary legislation.
As expected, this bundle of proposed rights contains a raft of various employee-friendly new rules, long-promised by the Labour Party but perhaps somewhat tempered by the reality of now being in power.
With this in mind, we are pleased to invite you to our Autumn 2024 in-person seminar!
We welcome back Andrew Knorpel to provide us with a review of the proposed legislation, including the right to claim unfair dismissal from day one (with a fudge regarding probationary periods of a duration yet to be decided), the right to guaranteed hours having worked regular hours over a reference period (implementing a supposed ban on “exploitative” zero hours contracts), the right to reasonable notice of shifts and payment for certain cancelled shifts, the right to work flexibly unless an employer’s refusal is reasonable, the right to statutory sick pay from day one, enhanced employer liability for harassment by third parties, enhanced protection for pregnant staff and new mothers and various repeals/enhancements to trade union obligations/rights.
Other proposed rights have been delayed to another day, including the right to “disconnect” and extended mandatory pay gap reporting.
If there’s time after all that, Andrew will also provide a general employment law update.
Join us at The Sandman Hotel in Crawley: registration, refreshments, pastries and networking from 8:30am for a 9am start.
We look forward to seeing you there!
