The Reverend Horton Heat, a vibrant American psychobilly band hailing from Dallas, Texas, originally formed in 1985 in the Deep Ellum neighborhood, blending elements of country, punk, swing, and rockabilly into a high-energy "Country-fed punkabilly" sound. Fronted by the charismatic Jim Heath, who took on the stage name Reverend Horton Heat, the band features Heath on guitar and vocals, Jimbo Wallace on upright bass, and Scott Churilla on drums. Heath’s journey began in Corpus Christi, where he played in a cover band before attending the University of Texas at Austin. After a brief stint with the touring band Sweetbriar, he returned to his musical roots, spurred by the punk rock scene and memorable encounters like a transformative show by The Cramps. Despite a brief hiatus from the rock-and-roll lifestyle, Heath's return to music, driven by his passion and a goading from Deep Ellum’s Russell Hobbs, led to the formation of the Reverend Horton Heat. The band quickly made a mark in the local music scene, drawing crowds with their dynamic performances and securing their place as a beloved underground act. Heath’s personal struggles and creative resilience are reflected in their music, including the poignant track “Where In The Hell Did You Go With My Toothbrush?”, inspired by his own life experiences.
