Join us for the unveiling of the Reverence & Remembrance exhibit, curated by Dr. Maggie Unverzagt Goddard, Postdoctoral Fellow for the East Marshall Street Well Project. The exhibit honors those whose remains were uncovered in 1994 during the construction of a VCU medical building. Mainly of African descent, they were used for anatomical study in the 19th century. They were not given the respect they are due—reflecting the role of racism in medicine and an urgent need for VCU community members to learn this history and ensure that we do better.
This event is open house format for those who wish to come and go as they please. Light refreshments will be served.
Sponsored by Postdoctoral Services, in collaboration with the VCU Postdoctoral Association and VCU Libraries.
