When her dad was 44, he wrote a journal. When his life concluded three years later, she left Buffalo at the age of 18. After 26 years, she is now 44 herself. And it is the relationship to her dad’s words along with the land and water in all the other places she has lived and traveled that finally returned her home to Buffalo. In this exhibit, you will see collages brought to life through screen printing and print press techniques on glass, wood, fabric and even a scrabble board! This is the start of a unique new body of work that blends photographs, her dads sketches, her collages and both their words joined together in new poems.
Kāli Quinn (She/They) is an author, violinist, theater-maker, and visual artist originally from WNY. Throughout the last 26 years she has lived in Rochester, Northern California, NYC, Vermont, Providence, and Arizona. They have performed their two solo shows off broadway and at festivals and medical schools throughout the US; taught at MIT, Brown and Duke Universities; worked with Clowns Without Borders (Guatemala/El Salvador), Grupo Galpão (Brazil), and Accademia dell’Arte (Italy); and served on the board of the Network of Ensemble Theaters. In 2016 Kāli shared her book, I Am Compassionate Creativity, on a 12,000-mile national tour. She now hosts artists & activists at The Center for Compassionate Creativity in Bisbee, AZ – while being based once again at home in Buffalo, NY. Kāli is so grateful to WNY BookArts for this invaluable residency time in downtown Buffalo.
