About this Event
THE RIDE
Our bicycle rides are a great way to explore Western Pennsylvania and beyond. The rides are hosted by Leo McCarthy, Army veteran and retired Moon Township police chief. Leo works hard to plan our rides, peppering them with an ounce of fun and a dash of history.
The rides are social in nature and limited to a small group of 15 riders. We take our time and enjoy the camaraderie. Most rides are between 15 and 20 miles.
The Conotton Creek Trail is a beautiful example of a reclaimed rail trail from the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroad. At only 54 minutes from the Pittsburgh International Airport, you will arrive at the trailhead in Jewett, Ohio, population 547. The trail is newly paved, smooth, wide and mostly flat. At 11.2 miles long (22.4 round trip), we will enjoy traveling over five covered bridges overlooking the Conotton Creek. Enjoy views of a lake and several large ponds covered in acres of water lilies. Wildflowers dot the entire distance along with floral displays at rest areas. The trail is considered a bird sanctuary with a Blue Heron Rookery. Cattle, horses and a wide variety of wild animals enhance the trail.
Interested riders are welcome to join us for lunch afterward, at their own expense.
Meet-up details will be provided the day before the ride.
