Honor and nurture your body and mind. This workshop will include a short lecture about Restorative Yoga, long luxurious prop-supported poses, and will end with an extended guided meditation.
Restorative yoga is a necessary part of a healthy yoga practice. The antidote to stress is relaxation, deep rest. This rest is different from sleep. Deep states of sleep include periods of dreaming which increase muscular tension, as well as other physiological signs of tension. In relaxation there is no movement, no effort, and the brain is quiet. All stress-reduction techniques include putting the body in a comfortable position, with gentle attention directed toward the breath to cultivate the relaxation response- "a physiological state characterized by a slower heart rate, metabolism, rate of breathing, lower blood pressure, and slower brain wave patterns." By supporting the body with props, we alternately stimulate and relax it to move toward balance. Some poses have an overall benefit. Others target an individual part, such as the lungs or heart. All create specific physiological responses which are beneficial to health and can reduce the effects of stress-related disease.
Bring socks and wear comfy clothes. If you have a favorite pillow or blanket feel free to bring those. If you have your own bolster/props please feel free to bring. Eye pillows or a washcloth to cover the eyes is also recommended.
Spots are limited.
