About this Event
There is a lot of sensing going on in Amsterdam. Where are these sensors? What kinds of sensors are there? How do these sensors help our city? Join us on October 4th for a hands-on workshop to learn how to use 1) privacy-by-design toolkits, 2) discover citizen centric sensors and 3) learn how to make your own smart city projects more responsible.
Are you a concerned smart citizen, or smart city innovator? This workshop is for you! Tom van Arman, from TAPP - Smart City Architecture will guide you through the many legal, technical and even spatial considerations you’ll need know about before deploying sensors in public space. Participants will go on a real-world Sensor Safari to discover the many devices in their natural habitat. Finally, roll up your sleeves and work together in a ‘Sensing Dilemma Workshop’ where we will field test some sensing projects to see how it can help (or harm) to our future city! The workshop will take place on the Marineterrein, an inner-city test ground for a sustainable living environment.
AGENDA:
13:45 - Walk In
14:00 - Responsible Sensing Tool Kit - If you are a city innovator thinking about deploying sensors for monitoring, this Toolkit is a step-by- step guide that will help you on your journey. In this session we will introduce you to the toolkit and show you real-world examples on how they were used in Amsterdam and how it can help your own sensing projects.
15:00 - Responsible Sensing Tool Kit - On this tour you will discover lots of sensors and the data Marineterrein collects, and impacts & insights they provide the city and its citizens.. What kind of future city do you want? In this walking tour you will see a number of key projects and experiments and will learn how this innovation district is helping co-create a trusted, safe and inclusive city for all.
16:00 - Sensing Dilemma Workshop - Societal values often conflict with decisions from big tech disrupters or government innovation. During this hands-on session, we will look at problems that your own company or home city is facing, and how sensors can solve this urban problem. The goal of this session is to identify the many dilemmas and considerations you will face when deploying sensors in public space. By the end of this workshop you will have a better understanding of privacy by design and citizen centric approach to data collection from public space.
17:00 - Networking Drinks.
