About this Event
Resin printing is very similar to filament printing in that it is additive. It starts with nothing and applies one layer at a time. You start with a model, slice it, save it to a USB drive, hit print, and wait.
It differs from filament in that it prints via UV light instead of heat and requires some post-processing before you can handle it bare-handed.
It can print faster than filament for broad, flat models. Each layer prints as a whole, fusing to the layer above, so the only real rate limiters are how long you cure each layer and how tall your model is.
Resin printing also requires a little more cleanup when done, but:
- If printing multiple prints, top up the resin as needed. It won’t hurt the resin to sit in the vat overnight with the cover on - it only cures with UV light; it won’t cure just from air exposure.
- If you’re done printing, filter the remaining resin from the vat back into the bottle, clean the vat and funnel, and put everything back.
The only moving part is the plate that lifts and lowers back into the vat. As long as the plate is kept level with the bed, it will continue to move.
