About this Event
Assemblage is an exciting art form in which we layer elements or “found art” treasures three dimensionally creating a collage that project out of—or on top of—the item such as a canvas, or in this case, the glass doors of our lanterns. Selecting objects that interest and/or inspire you, you will choose a white or black lantern to use as our substrate on which to glue our “found art” elements. Each lantern is 6”x 6”x 11” and has four glass doors that will be removed, coated with resin, and then our found objects placed into the resin which will then act as the adhesive to keep our objects in place. Once cured/hardened, the resin is completely transparent like glass with our objects held firmly in place.
The possibilities are endless as to what you can use to adorn your lanterns: photographs, lace, ribbon, jewelry, puzzle pieces, glass gems, glass gravel, feathers, leaves or pressed flowers, old coins, gears, pins, keys, sand, snow, buttons, verses/sayings in acetate - whatever! Go with one cohesive theme for all four of your doors or design each door as a separate piece of art—it is your choice! This class we will have amazing seasonal jewelry pieces/ brooches for you to choose from to decorate your lantern.
Each person will choose a metal lantern which has four glass doors that will be removed and transformed in to four separate pieces of art. There are a variety of lanterns available for you to choose from (white, aluminum, black, beige) and are medium sized (11" to 13" high). You can use one colour cohesively for all four panels or go wild and do each piece in a totally different colour pallett. In addition, each person is provided with a specific number of large and smaller stone crystal quartz and a choice of stunning glass gravel to enhance the overall effect. You will have access to unlimited amounts of other decorative materials such as liquid silver chrome, liquid gold, shattered glass which can be coloured with alcohol inks, glass gravel and silver/gold/rose gold foil, mica powders & epoxy pigments.
Although all supplies are included in this class, if you have items you think you may want to incorporate into your design, you are encouraged to bring them along with you and our Creative Coach can assist you with your design ideas!
No previous experience is necessary to participate in this workshop. Minimum age is 18 but if you are younger, pre-approval is possible but you will need to speak directly to the Creative Coach. Class size is limited.
***Please Note: Resin requires time to cure so lanterns can not be taken home with you; they will need to be picked up the next day or when it's convenient.Dress comfortably in old clothing as we are working with resin; gloves and aprons are provided. The art Studio is in the lower level so being able to traverse independently one flight of stairs with a railing is necessary.
