This tour is about artisans, blacksmiths and textile weavers, farmers and hunters, the people of the Kingdom of Ndongo had a rich culture and exceptional skills. Their lives were upended as they were kidnapped—forced into the Portuguese slave trade. They endured the Middle Passage, survived an attack in the Gulf of Mexico by English privateers, and then dozens were brought enslaved to Point Comfort in 1619. Together we will explore how they endured unfathomable challenges, yet persevered nonetheless. Their resiliency ensured their survival and that of the Virginia colony.
