Play is a powerful catalyst for our wellbeing and rebuilding trust in our communities
About this Event

The pandemic made it risky for us to be around each other, and being isolated from community has had a negative impact on our well-being. As it gets safer to be together again, many of us are excited to reconnect but experiencing some anxiety around sharing space with strangers. That's where Reset's pop-up playground comes in: join us to step away from your screens, take some time to play, and "reset" yourself in order to make strangers feel less strange again!
The playgrounds are an in-person, outdoor, physically distanced, 45 minute guided audio experience for 10-12 people at a time. They're an invitation to un-adult ourselves so that we can experience childlike freedom and the feeling of a reset.

Ticket Prices - Sliding Scale
General Tickets are $25 + hst
Subsidized Tickets are $12.50 + hst
Solidarity Tickets are $50 + hst

We are a non profit social enterprise and our goal is to provide a reset to 1500 people this summer. The unit cost per person is $45 (here's our budget), but we don't want cost to be a barrier and thanks to some generous donations, we are providing tickets on a sliding scale.

For those who are unfamiliar with this approach, we encourage people to choose a ticket cost which they feel most financially comfortable with and we highly encourage those are financially comfortable to purchase the solidarity tickets so we can continue to subsidize the experience for others.

Finally, we recognize that any cost is still a barrier for some, however, we feel that it is important that there is a cost to the ticket in order to encourage commitment to attend, reduce dropout, and reflect a mutual exchange. That being said, If you require a free ticket and can promise you'll be there, please email us at [email protected] and we'll hook you up.

Location

Playgrounds run from July 15 to Sept 19.

Playgrounds from August 5th-8th will be held at Regent Park (620 Dundas St E) in collaboration with Mothers of Peace Regent Park.

We are currently accepting nominations for other locations over the summer.

We are passionate about expanding the definition of where we can all play, and would love to hear your ideas for locations for the playground - from parks, to parking lots, to pirate ships! An ideal location for us has a large open area that is safe, fairly flat, and accessible (like a field, a lot, or an underpass). It is important to us to bring the playground to places where the local community has invited us. If you're interested in learning more, please reach out to [email protected]

Covid-19 & Other Safety Notes
Your safety is our priority so we’re following all the provincial guidelines around gathering.
  • A playground will consist of 10 participants and 2-3 staff present
  • Designed to allow for 6 feets of distance at all times if that is your preference
  • Playgrounds are always outdoors
  • Masks are optional
  • Your headphones and mats will always be sanitized

On the topic of safety, we also acknowledge that we share very little in advance about the experience, which can understandably make the experience feel unsafe for folks. We do this intentionally because we'r optimizing for surprise and delight but we also know there is a relationship to safety and accessibility so here is some potentially helpful info:

  • You will be instructed to follow some prompts.
  • You will not be asked to touch, or be touched by anyone else.
  • You will be active for parts of the experience, but it is not physically strenuous.
  • You will not be forced to do anything you don't feel comfortable with.

If have any specific questions or you think we could add some more information here, please do not hesitate to reach out to [email protected].

Accessibility

The playgrounds are designed for people between the ages of 18-118, including people who use most mobility devices and most wifi enabled Assistive Listening Devices.

With that said, we recognize that there is a wide spectrum of devices so we ask you to please reach out to us with your preferred and required needs in advance of your playground date so we can advise as to whether we can meet your needs for the best playground experience.

We acknowledge that the majority of our team is able-bodied and hearing. At this moment, the experience is regrettably not accessible to those who are blind and deaf without the use of an assistive listening device. We have future plans and we intend to have further conversations with members from these communities to ensure access in the future. If you would like updates on this or to help design one of these experiences, please reach out to us at [email protected].

Inclusion

Collective joy requires justice so we endeavour to create inclusive spaces for all in attendance, regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation, ability, physical appearance, body type, race or belief. We recognize that individuals come from all backgrounds and lived experiences and cannot create true safety for all, but we uphold the principle of not tolerating discrimination in any form.

We are hosting the playgrounds on the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples and we recognize the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and the Inuit peoples. We are committed to continually learning and listening to Indigenous communities to ensure we are contributing towards Indigenous sovereignty.

100% of any profits generated from the pop-up playgrounds will be donated to Indian Residential School Survivor Society.
