Researching Historic LGBTQ Relatives - Virtual Event

You may have heard family rumors about a "bachelor uncle" or an aunt and her "roommate." Perhaps you identify as LGBTQ and want to know whether any of the relatives who came before you were also. This is valid family history research, but ethical concerns about the past and the present must be considered, and understanding gay history is critical to finding and understanding information.
Terms such as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer weren't part of our ancestors' vocabulary. The term homosexual goes back to the 1860s, but it didn't become commonly used until the 20th century. Many of our LGBTQ ancestors had to conceal their true selves because society wasn't accepting of them. Digging into the clues to identify your LGBTQ ancestor can be challenging, but not necessarily impossible.
We warmly invite you to join Pastfinders and Janice Sellers on Thursday, October 9th, 2025 at 5PM eastern Time on Zoom for this free program. Speaker Janice Sellers is an international speaker and genealogist. She is related to actor Peter Sellers and to John of Gaunt, son of a king and father of a king. At least that's what her grandparents told her. Unfortunately, they were wrong, but that's why she has researched her family for 50 years and now helps others find the right pieces to fit their genealogy puzzles. She specializes in Jewish, Black, forensic, and newspaper research. Her site is ancestraldiscoveries.com.
