We’re excited to announce our December public lecture as part of our ‘Research in Conversation’ Event Series.
About this Event

You’re invited to join us on a historical journey, with a gripping talk from university expert Professor Tim Thornton: New discoveries on Richard III and the “princes in the Tower” and their implications for histories of conflict and its aftermath in fifteenth- and sixteenth-century England.

The fascination evoked by Richard III and the mystery of the ‘princes in the Tower’ continues to grow. The discovery of Richard’s body under a carpark in 2012 and his reburial in Leicester Cathedral in 2015 drew international attention. Yet the heart of this interest surrounding Richard, and his reign remains an unresolved question, the fate of Richard’s nephews, King Edward V and his brother Richard, duke of York, who disappeared from public view during 1483 soon after being denounced as bastards and displaced from the succession. It is arguably the greatest missing persons – and perhaps M**der – mystery in British history. In recent years, Prof Tim Thornton’s discoveries have shed fascinating new light on the disappearance of the princes and those allegedly involved in their fate. This lecture explores these discoveries, including new revelations, which are to feature in a special episode of Inside the Tower of London (LionTV / Channel 5).

Our Research in Conversation events are free and open to members of the public, students and staff. Each of our lectures will give you the opportunity to get involved with a question-and-answer session, and the chance to network with like-minded individuals, with complimentary refreshments.

Our Research in Conversation events are an opportunity to share our fantastic research and its relevance in the everyday world, featuring talks around various topics of interest, and hearing directly from our very own university experts and from those around the world.
