The name "Requios" originates from a term used by Portuguese explorers during the Ryukyu Kingdom’s era of maritime trade. They referred to the Ryukyuan people as Requios—meaning friendly, unarmed, and peace-loving—a spirit that continues to define Okinawan culture today.
