Repair-ED: a repair café and celebration for International Repair Day
To celebrate International Repair Day we’re co-hosting Repair-ED - a repair cafe, in conjunction with our friends at Hopper Refill & Cafe.
Repair-ED is about showcasing the mahi in the repair/remake space in Greater Wellington. It’s about enabling community engagement, creating awareness, and enabling greater community participation in the reduction of e-waste and textile waste to landfill.
Repair-ED is part of a wider national launch of Repair Café Aotearoa NZ (RCANZ).
This event is free, but we welcome a koha at the door. All donations will go to our volunteers who have made this day possible.
What you can expect from Repair-ED
Repair-ED is a day dedicated to all things to do with repair. It’s your opportunity to hear from some amazing speakers in the repair, reuse, remake and share space. It’s a place for you to bring your small broken electrical items* (toasters, heaters, bedside table lamps etc), textile (clothing, bedding etc) and wooden items. It’s a place for you to mix, mingle and connect with like-minded people.
If you need to take a break from the speaker sessions or you’re waiting to repair your item, there will be a range of interactive stands for you to check out.
Awesome speaker session line up:
- 11.15 to 11.45 pm: Community Benefits of Repair Session - ReBicycle, The Tip Shop, Hopper Refill on Repair Cafes
- 12 pm to 12.30 pm: Education Session - Make Room, Fab Lab Wgtn Massey University, Sustainability Trust
- 12.45 pm to 1.15 pm: Producer Responsibility Session - Usedfully (textiles), RemarkIT (e-waste) and Recycle a Device.
- 1.30 pm to 3 pm: Livestream the Repair Café Aotearoa New Zealand launch event
*We will do our best to fix your item but it depends on which replacement parts we have available.
While the speaker session is running, we’ll have a range of fix-it stalls:
- Small electrical, textile and woodwork hosted by Hopper Repair Café
- Small electrical - e-waste parts - hosted by Tony from Sustainability Trust
- Fab Lab Wgtn, Massey University.
There will also be a raft of interactive stands where you can find out more about some of the groups active in repair in Poneke:
- Trish Given – Mt Vic Hub
- Fab Lab Wgtn, Massey University
- ConsumerNZ
- Mutu
- The Tip Shop
- Make Room (STEM)
- Negative Emissions and Waste Studies Programme Pōneke (NEWS Programme)
- RAD (Recycle a Device)
+ many more!
If you’re feeling a bit peckish, you’ll be pleased to hear that our friends from Juice on the Loose & Taco Addicts will be on-site too
Accessibility and parking.
Please note that the speaker session will take place upstairs (limited accessibility). We’re hoping to have a screen and sound system set up downstairs as well.
Parking is really limited. But you can catch bus 3, 18 or 27 and jump off on Taranaki opposite the petrol station or by Wellington High.
We encourage you to bike, scoot or walk.
This event is brought to you by Hopper Home Refill & Café, Sustainability Trust & is backed by Repair Café Aotearoa NZ (RCANZ).
