Do you want to learn how to do an electronic, sewing/knitting/mending, mechanical, book, woodworking, or other type of repair? Registration is required: https://lithgowlibrary.libcal.com/event/14242687.This registration will be considered a request--we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do your repair. After we review your request and consult with our expert volunteers, we will get back to you.
Repair Cafés are a free community meeting place focused on repairing broken items. Visitors can bring their broken items from home to have a repair made by a skilled fixer. Repair Cafes began in Amsterdam in 2009 as response to increasing consumption and our throw away economy. It offers a sustainable alternative by teaching people to see their possessions in a new light, and appreciate the value in fixing things. Repair Cafes build community ties by offering a space for neighbors to get together, share their skills and knowledge, and create a more sustainable future. We are having this event during Earth Week to emphasize the importance of sustainability and waste reduction. Lithgow Public Library recently started the process of becoming a Certified Sustainable Library through the Sustainable Library Initiative, and this Repair Café is one of the many ways we are working toward certification. A big thank you to our volunteers for making this happen! Interested in volunteering for a future Repair Café? Please email reference@lithgowlibrary.org.
