Bring your broken household items or clothing/textiles to Orkney’s first Repair Cafe! (please arrive by 11.45 if you are bringing in an item for repair). From cuddly toys which have lost their stuffing, to DVD players that just won’t switch on, we’ll take a look and try to help you fix it.The aim of the Repair Cafe is to avoid sending waste to landfill by keeping things in use for longer, but it is also a social event - a cup of tea, coffee, biscuit or cake and a blether while folk are there are just as important to us. Repair Cafes also have an educational role: when folk bring an item in for repair they are encouraged to have a go at repairing it themselves with the support of a volunteer.
Repair Cafes don’t replace existing repair businesses - for complicated or lengthy repairs or valuable items we’ll be highlighting other repair companies and organisations in Orkney. We’ll be concentrating on items that are not economical for businesses to repair or for which a local repair option does not exist, and doing basic repairs that don’t take much more than half an hour.
