REPAIR & MEND WORKSHOP SERIES
Join Liberty from ReMode to learn the visible mending technique darning and put it into practice on your woolen clothing that needs some TLC. Mending materials and equipment provided but please bring your own clothing or fabric items to mend.
Thursday 21st November - Darning on wool garments
Do you have holes in your favourite Jumpers? Bring your old beloved knitwear items along and learn how to repair them using darning. We’ll cover two basic types of darning; visible mending to create patterns, and add decorative patches to your garment and invisible mending so that mended areas go undetected. While this workshop focuses on wool and knitted garments, the visible woven darning technique we will be demonstrating can be used on all materials including woven fabrics, like denim.
Equipment and materials will be provided by ReMode, but please feel free to bring along your own garment that you would like to mend! If you would like to do invisible mending it’s advised you bring your own matching yarn for your garment - we can’t guarantee that we will have the same colour or material yarn as your own garment you are mending.
Thursday 28th November - Mending
Bring along your broken clothes and ones that just don’t fit right and breathe new life into them. Though working on your own clothes you will learn how to take up hems, put in zips and sew on buttons. Or continue from the week before mending holes in your knitwear through darning.
Booking: Book on Eventbrite. Contact [email protected] to find out more or book a Welcome Meeting with a member of the team.
Food & drinks: We have snacks & hot drinks available for free, including herbal teas, vegan and gluten-free options. Please speak to a staff member if you are peckish, we always have sandwich ingredients in.
Pantry & Free Shop: In our corridor, grab something from the free shop – clothes, toiletries, household items. Or why not see what you can find in the pantry? Lots of items to fill your cupboards.
Children: This group isn’t suitable for children. You are welcome to bring children to the Creative Cafe, Community Soup or Walking & Wheeling groups. All children must be supervised by a parent/caregiver. We have a designated kids’ corner in the pink room.
Transport: We are a 12-minute walk from Paisley Gilmour Station and the main bus routes. There is a large car park in front of the building. We will need your registration number on arrival when you sign in for free parking.
Note on the space: We are based in the Embroidery Mill, directly across from Morrisons car park. We are not in Mile End Mill, the building with a tall tower up the road.
Accessibility information: Our space is on the ground floor and is wheelchair accessible with an accessible bathroom. Go to our Accessibility & Inclusion page for more information. We will be taking a short walk from our space during one or two workshops to photograph some nature, but we will ensure any outside working is accessible to all in the group.
Sensory information: We use lamps in our spaces to reduce sensory overwhelm and fidget toys are available.
