When times were tough in the 1920’s, folks in Harlem held rent parties to raise money and lift their spirits. Well, exactly 100 years later, we think this is still a swell idea! We invite you to come help us pay the rent at Secret Headquarters so we can stay in this fabulous space and continue to create cultural experiences for you to enjoy well into the future. In the spirit that American poet Langston Hughes embraced in his Prohibition-era poem August Moon ("...I want something to happen in the moonlight, something to make me feel alive and young again"), we’ll celebrate the night and our misspent youth with non-stop live music of the most eclectic sort*, snazzy snacks and forbidden beverages! The Secret Speakeasy will be open for business, the Secret Flames will be burning up your donations (must be experienced in person to be understood!), and private tours of secret spaces will be conducted with the greatest discretion. Feel free to dress fancy or come as you are, just bring lots of cash and let the mayhem ensue!*musicians will be revealed 2 weeks before the party
Secret Headquarters is gratefully situated on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. We honor, respect, and give thanks to our hosts.
