Restorative Yoga uses long-held, passive postures supported by a variety of props, so that no muscular effort is required. This style of practice is intended to release ever-deeper layers of tension in the mind-body-heart field.
Restorative Yoga is different from Yin yoga.
Whilst Yin yoga is designed to work with the body’s connective tissue and bones, Restorative Yoga is more akin to meditation than to an active asana practice.
The focus of Restorative Yoga can be described as “alert relaxation.” It’s designed to support an increasing ability to experience “Beingness” — a quality of awareness not related to “doing” or external circumstances.
These classes are incredibly soothing for the nervous system, fostering deeper states of rest and meditative awareness.
