Join us Sunday, November 9 at 10 am for S. Stephen's annual observance of Remembrance Sunday. The Schola Cantorum will offer the beloved Requiem in D minor of Gabriel Fauré as we lift up our prayers for the Faithful Departed.
Requiem Masses are not normally offered on Sundays. An exception to this rule was made by Benedict XV following the First World War, when he granted permission for churches in the combatant countries to keep a Requiem on Remembrance Sunday (the Sunday closest to Armistice Day, November 11th) to pray for the war dead. The practice subsequently was adopted in Anglo-Catholic parishes throughout the English-speaking world.
