About this Event
The Shasta Equal Coalition is hosting a display of the Social Justice Sewing Academy’s Remembrance Banners in the Shasta County Arts Council (SCAC) main gallery during the first two weeks of November. The gallery and Arts Council are located at 1313 Market Street and the event is free and open to the public.
Opening night will be held November 1st from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
The Remembrance Project is a community art effort; residents and artists were involved creating and then displaying banners that honors the lives of individuals who have lost their lives due to various forms violence . The banners depict each person through the eyes of those who knew and loved them.
In conjunction with the Remembrance Banners, community residents are encouraged to honor a local Bridge Builder: someone who reaches across divides, seeks to understand diverse perspectives, and works for unity, inclusion, peace, justice. . .for the greater good. You can nominate a local Bridge Builder by going to https://padlet.com/sc_sejc/bridgebuilders. We will also be offering opportunities to create your own expressions of gratitude or remembrance.
This project is being co-sponsored and supported by the Shasta County Arts Council, KIXE, United Way of Northern California, Shasta County Democratic Women’s Club, and Shasta County Citizens Advocating Respect.
