On Friday 15th August the Royal British Legion in partnership with the Government will hold a midday National Commemorative Event in Port Sunlight to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan Day and the end of the Second World War.The Mayor of Wirral is hosting a VJ day commemoration at the Port Sunlight War Memorial at 11am. The service will last for 30 minutes and be led by Revd Alan Wickens in Rev’d Ian Smith’s absence. Participating in the service is the Wirral Pipes & Drums Band and a song from Jo Dennis. Along with veterans and the Mayor, attending will be the Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside and Post Sunlight Village Trust representatives.
The service is open to all, please join the village to pay tribute to the Second World War generation from British, Commonwealth and Allied Forces. Following the service, the Mayor will then take tea and coffee at the café inside Christ Church from 11.30am-12pm and would welcome you to join him.
