Some souls are unforgettable. Roxy was one of them.Rescued in April 2024 from a local abandoned, condemned house, she came to MEHS weighing just 30 pounds. She staggered into our care a shadow of the dog she was meant to be. She had survived unimaginable neglect, yet somehow, she still had love to give. She was fragile, but she was a fighter.
And fight she did — though her time as an MEHS pet was short, it was profound. We placed her in a foster home on a careful re-feeding plan, and over time, she regained weight. The light slowly but surely came back to her eyes, and although Roxy struggled with her mobility (diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy, a nonreversible condition) her foster adopted her without hesitation and made her the center of her world. Despite the challenges Roxy faced, she had six beautiful months of joy, companionship, and time spent being adored by her mawm, Stephanie. She lived a dream of a dog's life with Stephanie, barking at cars and squirrels, snuggling under blankets and on the couch, getting professional photos taken, and even entered and won a spot in our 2025 MEHS Calendar. She showed us that no past is too painful to overcome, and no heart too broken to heal. Roxy's mobility took a devastating turn, and she was laid to rest on October 25th, 2024.
On Thursday, November 21, from 5 PM to 7 PM, join us at Clementine’s Naughty & Nice Creamery in Edwardsville for an evening in her honor. 15% of all proceeds will go directly to the Metro East Humane Society, funding care for dogs like Roxy who deserve a second chance.
Come enjoy a sweet treat and help us remember a dog who showed us the true meaning of resilience. Remember to show the flyer for the donation to make it's way to MEHS!🍦
