About this Event
In honor of Yom HaShoah, join KI and CMT to watch two deeply moving film portraits of child survivors of the Holocaust who made their lives in the US. In these interview/documentaries, Hannah Spielman-Schrob and George Sturm each share the poignant stores of their and their families' experiences of the Holocaust, and the enduring impact on their lives.
After watching these vividly conveyed personal stories (total run time circa 45 minutes), we will have a Q&A with the producers and film-makers, Amy Schrob and Scott Pressler, and hear about their broader project to capture survivor stories and perspectives on film in a compelling way and in the first person, before the people who can tell them are gone.
Screening presented by Congregation Kehillath Israel in partnership with Congregation Mishkan Tefila.

Remember/Zachor is an initiative to capture and preserve the voices, personalities, and humanity of those who experienced firsthand the Holocaust, one of the defining tragedies of the twentieth century.
Since 2000, the number of Holocaust survivors in the US has dwindled from 160,000 to 37,000; within a decade, the last of them will be gone, their memories and their stories fading as time passes - residing only with those who knew and loved them. How can we bear witness in a way that will retain the force and the determination of their survival? What has been the long-lived experience of survivors and their families here in the U.S? What have the decades done to their memories, sadness, anger, and regret?
The project is committed to documenting these reflections of survivors' long lives and preserving them for generations to come. Through filming and recording their voices, their words, and their faces, Amy Schrob, Scott Pressler and cinematographer John Mottern hope to create a lasting memory that will live on in the archives of the museums and cultural institutions dedicated to preserving the lessons and experiences of the past….to educate, warn, and inspire us to remember both the triumphs and the tragedies.
