This year, the 14th November falls on a Friday, and it has been proposed that anyone wishing to pay their respects and remember Abbot Richard Whiting, Dom John Thorne, and Dom Roger James might gather at Frederick Bligh Bond’s Memorial Cross on Glastonbury High Street (outside St. John’s Church, BA6 9DR) at 5:45 pm, to observe The Silent Minute at 6 pm, on Friday, 14th November, 2023.Please bring white flowers.
Following The Silent Minute, we will walk the short processional route to the Main Gate of Glastonbury Abbey, to place our flowers in Remembrance of the Glastonbury Three.
If you are unable to join us in person, but would like to pay your respects in spirit, please observe The Silent Minute at 6 pm (GMT).
Why 14th November?
After studious research by Lisa Goodwin and John Wadsworth, it has become increasingly clear that Richard Whiting, and his companions John Thorne and Roger James, were judicially and ritually murdered NOT on Saturday, 15th November – as previously believed – but on Friday, 14th November 1539.
