Relentless Melt presents a screening of brand new short films made in Max Hattler’s Abstract and Experimental Animation classes at the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong. Taking inspiration from 20th-century avant-garde experiments in graphical sound generation, this year’s crop includes several digital abstract films where the entire image of the film functions as an ‘optical’ soundtrack. Abstract motion becomes sound. What you hear is what you see. This project was supported by a Teaching Excellence Award Grant ‘Graphical Sound Animation’ and a Teaching Development Grant ‘Experimental Animation with Optical Sound’. Screening curated by Max Hattler. Relentless Melt is a Hong Kong-based society for the production, dissemination and appreciation of abstract and experimental moving image. Free admission on a first-come, first-served basis. All CityUHK students and staff, peers in art and creative media education and industry professionals are invited to attend the screening.
