About this Event
Creative visioning for Portland’s Historic Old Town
Join Vanport Mosaic for a community conversation, part of the Cultural Week of Action on Race and Democracy. In the midst of the ongoing challenges facing Old Town, this discussion reflects on history and catalyzes creative thinking for the future of Portland’s historic cultural district.
The event will begin with “Place,” a presentation by Erica Naito-Campbell, granddaughter of Bill Naito, the visionary leader whose work shaped Old Town.
Following the presentation, Lynn Fuchigami will facilitate a roundtable discussion with Old Town “Community Catalysts,” who will share their personal visions for the future of the neighborhood and engage participants in an interactive dialogue.
Community Catalysts:
- Gloria Lee, Portland Chinese American Citizens Alliance
- Joyce Chung, Goodies Snack Shop
- Elizabeth Nye, Lan Su Chinese Garden
- Peggy Nagae, Minoru Yasui Tribute Project
- Peggy Posert, Restore Oregon
- Sankar Raman, The Immigrant Story
- Zachary Stocks, Oregon Black Pioneers
- Erica Naito-Campbell

The event is part of COMING HOME: Memory Activism in Portland's Historic Old Town/ September 28 - October 5, 2024
Join the Vanport Mosaic for a week of events honoring and reconnecting communities with deep ties to one of the city's oldest and most historically significant neighborhoods. This area has been profoundly shaped by historic racism and cultural erasure, and we're coming together to celebrate its resilience and re-imagine its future.
The Vanport Mosaic is honored to be part of the National Cultural Week of Action on Race and Democracy, a groundbreaking initiative launched by Race Forward and Americans for the Arts. Learn more about this here.
