The film screening will be preceded by a talk with the director-couple at 7pm.
As a young girl, Louise Lemoine spent her childhood in rehabilitation centres alongside her severely disabled father. In Rehab (from Rehab) she confronts her painful memories with the experimental, holistic approach of the centre REHAB in Basel. The artist-couple Ila Bêka and Louise Lemoine propose a sensitive and personal reflection which questions the way hospitals think about care and spaces for the most vulnerable ones. Are physical care and mental wellbeing equally important? How can architecture affect happiness? “We don’t make films about architecture, but about the way people behave in space and connect,” says Bêka who – together with Lemoine - is given a Close-up at Bozar.
Ila Bêka and Louise Lemoine are artists, filmmakers, producers and publishers. Working together for the past 15 years, their work is focused on experimenting new narrative and cinematographic forms in relation to contemporary architecture. Their films have been widely shown in some of the most prestigious international cultural institutions and events such as the Venice Architecture Biennale, The Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), and Centre Pompidou (Paris).
