Nerang Night Training HikesFirst of all and most importantly, I am not a commercial guide and everyone is responsible for their own safety, in saying that, we do generally look after each other. I only organise these hikes voluntarily to help get people together for a bit of social hiking as my way of giving something to the community.
To keep things consistent, we meet at the same place and time for both hikes per week on Mondays and Thursdays, meeting at 5:15pm for a 5:30pm start at the Nerang Velodrome carpark, which is the starting point for all the night hikes.
We generally cover between 10-12km each night, trying to finish in about 2 1/2 hours each time, including varying amounts of elevation gain and levels of difficulty, and we generally keep to a pace of about 4 to 4.5kmh. These will include a mix of trails and bush bashing, and I try to plan different routes each time.
We generally follow QPWS guidelines with the group sizes, for instance, we are allowed up to 40 people when we stick to the fire trails and around 15 when we go onto the narrower hiking tracks. If we get more than this turning up, there are enough experienced hikers to be able to break up into 2 groups if necessary.
