About this Event
Making Black Herstory Artifacts that stand the test of time
You've always wanted to visit the Buxton Museum, but it's only open Mon - Fri... and you're always too tired to make the drive to Canada during vacations.
Well, if your school has a sizeable black student population AND you identify as a black American woman or queer person, then now's your chance! This trip has been scheduled during Detroit Public School system's spring vacation so that you can visit this important historic site. Just hop on the bus at Ambassador Plaza in Windsor, Ontario (only 15 minutes from Detroit), and we'll take care of the rest.
Spend the day visiting 2 black historic sites in Canada (Amherstburg Freedom Museum + Buxton Museum), as well as their archives, and the families who preserve them. See a variety of artifacts, including some from key figures in black women's voting history: Mary McLeod Bethune and Shirley Chisholm. Learn the benefits of keeping artifacts with their creators' families. Make an artifact to document your memories of the 2024 election, plus a second artifact for the black Herstory moment of your choice.
