About this Event

John Dixwell was one of the men who, in 1649, signed the death warrant for King Charles I, and after the Restoration of the Monarchy in 1660 was one of three of those judges who fled from the wrath of Charles II to the safety and freedom of the New England Colonies of America.

Sarah Dixwell Brown has produced a wonderful and emotional account both of Dixwell’s life in England and America as well as her own search for the truth about her ancestor, after whom she was named.

This talk, based on Sarah's book, will entertain and fascinate anyone with an interest in family history, in the history of the New England colonies before the Revolution, or just in history. It is beautifully written and the author’s researches stand as a wonderful demonstration of perseverance in the face of the seemingly ‘lost to history’ stories.

The talk takes place at Huntingdon Town Hall at 7.30pm; doors open at 7.15pm. The talk will last about 50 minutes plus questions and a book signing. Refreshments will also be available.
